Scottish Rite of Freemasonry District of Columbia

Scottish Rite Freemasons in Washington, DC Southern Jurisdiction -- The Scottish Rite is a fraternity whose purpose is to take good men and make them better. The moral teachings are organized into degrees, numbered one through thirty-three. Drama and allegory are used to emphasize the content and message of the degrees.

Naval Lodge 4

Naval Lodge of Masons came into being in the dawn of the nineteenth century, and to the fact of its location in the Navy Yard settlement, or to use a colloquial phrase, "on the Navy Yard" and likewise, perhaps, to the fact that the war with Tripoli had just ended and the country was ringing with the daring deeds of Decatur and his fleet, may be attributed the selection of its name. This latter assumption seems all the more probable because it was in Washington, D.C., that many of the crew from that fleet were discharged, and as a consequence the citizens of the city were brought into closer touch with the naval heroes and their achievement. Tradition, indeed, holds that from this source the Lodge obtained a large accession of valuable membership.

Freemasonry is Fraternity

One of my brothers at Naval Lodge 4 sent me this as a Word Document; however, I think it is super-important to share this out as widely as possible, so here you go! Thank you to the fine brothers of Federal Lodge No 1 for providing this fine material

Freemasonry

I am a proud member of Naval Lodge 4 on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, and Hiram-Takoma 10 in Takoma Park, Maryland. As part of the rich tradition of Freemasonry, I will try to collect some of the cooler things going on in my Masonic life in Washington, DC, and elsehwere, including the Grand Lodge of Washington and the Scottish Rite of Washington.
